Bible Study - UNTIL THEN - Greater Things

Sermon-Based Bible Study – March 7, 2021
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. Read John 14:11-14. Think about the words that Jesus speaks and the implications.
    • What does this passage teach us about the authority and divinity of Christ? Why is this important?
    • Jesus emphasizes the importance of believing in him and asking in his name. What does this teach us about the nature of our Christian faith? How does the centrality of our faith in Jesus inform our living?
    • Jesus also emphasizes the glory of the Father in the Son. What does this teach us about God’s glory and his purposes?
  5. Chris noted several takeaways and practical applications.
    • “Greater Things” are for the purpose of leading to the greatest of things – believing in Jesus. What do you want to see God do through you? How will this help other people come to know Jesus? (Be honest about this. Judgment free zone.)
    • When “greater things” don’t come to pass on that “dot” in time - that is an opportunity for us to remember that we live for the plot and not the dot. Sometimes we pray and wait for the greater things and it doesn’t happen. How should we respond? How does this shape us?
  6. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
