Bible Study - UNTIL THEN - Help

Sermon-Based Bible Study – March 21, 2021
- What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
- Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
- What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
- Did you grow up in a church that had a tradition of celebrating Pentecost? Have you ever celebrated Pentecost? If so, how do you celebrate it? If not, why do you think that is?
- Read John 14:15-27. Do you think receiving the Holy Spirit is contingent upon loving and obeying Jesus? Why? Make a list of the things this passage reveals about the work and presence of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life. Are any of these ideas new to you? Are any of these ideas puzzling or confusing to you? Why?
- Read John 14:19. What do you think Jesus means by saying “the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me?”
- Read John 14:20. Chris said that this verse reveals three things the Holy Spirit will help us realize. What are they? Chris mentioned that these realizations tend to grow on us, or in us. Which of these three realizations is the most meaningful or impactful for you? Which do you need a deeper realization of,
- The identity of Jesus?
- Your identity in Jesus?
- His residency in you?
- Read 2 Corinthians 5:17. We no longer view ourselves in light of our past but in light of who we now are in Christ. How does living our life in light of our identity in Christ help to walk as Jesus walked in our everyday lives? What did Chris mean by saying, “I’m a spiritual billionaire who’s now wringing my hands over a lost $20 bill?”
- What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word? Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
