Bible Study - AFTER LIFE - Cutbacks

Sermon-Based Bible Study – May 9, 2021
- What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
- Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
- What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
- What does it mean to you when Chris says, “the ‘after-life’ isn’t about our eternal life beyond the grave, but a resurrected life in Christ before the grave?” Was there a cardboard testimony that was particularly impactful for you? What would your cardboard testimony be?
- Read John 13:34 and 15:12-17. How would someone be able to tell that you love the people in your small group? In your church? Other disciples of Jesus you interact with?
- Read John 15:1-8. Five times in our reading, Jesus mentions bearing fruit. What do you think Jesus means when he says to “bear fruit?” Chris suggested that what the world probably needs from believers is more fruit and less nuts. What do you think he meant by “nuts?”
- What’s the difference between “bearing” fruit and “making” fruit?
- Six different times in the first 10 verses of John 15 Jesus uses this phrase “remain in me.”
- What does it mean to “remain in Him”?
- Who do you know who walks with Jesus every day – who abides or dwells with Him?
- What do you see them doing in a practical way that makes you think that they are abiding in Jesus?
- In John 15:4 Jesus says that the Father prunes the branches that are bearing fruit. Has God ever “pruned” you? In what way did God prune you? Do you know why He pruned you? How did the pruning help you to bear more fruit?
- What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word? Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
