Bible Study - ANCIENT FUTURE - The Gap

Sermon-Based Bible Study – October 10, 2021
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. Is there anything you can think of in our culture generally or in church culture in particular that is highly valued or important that God does not value?  Is there anything you can think of that our culture in general or the church culture in particular dismisses or demeans that God highly values?
  5. Read Galatians 2:11-21. It’s likely that Peter was taught that gentiles were evil and that they should be avoided so you are not tempted to sin. Did your parents teach you that “evil companions corrupt good morals?”  What kinds of people or behaviors did your parents want you to avoid?
  6. Are there any groups or kinds of people that you try to minimize contact with?  Are there people that you know who would be disappointed in you or disapprove of you if they knew you were associated with certain people?  How does that impact your behavior?  Are there places, people or circumstances you avoid just to maintain a good reputation with others?
  7. In Antioch it became apparent that there was a gap in Peter’s life between what he knew to be true and how he lived.  He was a disciple in process.  How is that different than Paul? Barnabas? James? You?  How does that make you feel?
  8. When is the last time God revealed that you were thinking wrong about something?
  9. Is there something that you know to be right in your mind but you aren’t living out? Take a moment and ask the Lord for the grace to walk it out.
  10. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
