A Few Bad Apples

A Few Bad Apples

I recently found this picture in my camera roll. I immediately started smiling at the memory of my first apple picking experience in the Hamptons. I remember painstakingly choosing each apple - much to the amusement of my then roommate, Liz. She and I lived together for almost 3 years in Sunnyside Queens - right off the 7 train in a cozy “one bedroom turned two bedroom” walk up. Liz grew up in Southampton and took me there one fall to fulfill my life-long dream of apple picking (don’t worry, I have since gotten bigger dreams). You guys, it was all I imagined. And I used those apples to make ALL THE THINGS upon returning to the city - apple butter, apple crisp, baked apples, apples on a cheese board... you get the idea.

Now as I look at that picture, I smile at all of the choices that led me to that moment - holding a bag of apples in the middle of an orchard on Long Island. And you guys, I AM THANKFUL. This week in BKAH we are talking about how all of our choices tell a story. We get to decide if our story points to Jesus. I imagine you relate - there have definitely been some “bad apples” in my decision-making. Not every page in my story points to Him. But, in His great love for us, He has redeemed me. His mercy and love - wow. I am committed to waking up each day, focusing on making choices that point to Jesus - that love God and love others. And you know what… He helps me. He is able, He sees me, and He never leaves me. Join me in praying that we are able to “take every thought captive to obey Christ” and that our choices, both big and small point directly to our Savior. I am praying the same for your kids. I hope you are too.
